Tools for Hydration in Early Grief

Ashley Waite

The first weeks and months after the loss of a loved one can be a completely disorienting time. Oftentimes, individuals feel as if they can barely keep their head above water.

During the early stages grief, it can be difficult to attend to the daily tasks of life. The to-do list and plans suddenly don’t matter as life as you once knew it, comes to a screeching halt.

For many bereaved individuals, remembering to stay hydrated can be difficult. If you find yourself unable to stay on top of your daily water intake, consider setting an alarm reminder on your phone or purchasing a smart water bottle.

According to Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health, “drinking enough water each day is crucial for many reasons: to regulate body temperature, keep joints lubricated, prevent infections, deliver nutrients to cells, and keep organs functioning properly. Being well-hydrated also improves sleep quality, cognition, and mood.”
